This page explains how we research, test, and review everything we publish at FinOpsDaily — so you know exactly how much weight to give our recommendations. Our goal is simple: give cloud and FinOps practitioners advice we’d trust ourselves.
Editorial independence
Our reviews and recommendations are not for sale. We may earn affiliate commissions or run sponsored content (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but commercial relationships never determine our opinions, scores, or whether a product is recommended. Editorial decisions are made separately from any partnership. If we can’t cover something honestly, we don’t cover it.
How we research our guides
For educational and how-to content, we:
- Draw on hands-on experience running cloud workloads on AWS, Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes.
- Reference primary sources — official provider documentation and pricing pages, and the FinOps Foundation’s open framework — rather than relying on second-hand summaries.
- Summarize frameworks and concepts in our own words and link to authoritative sources where relevant.
- Favor durable principles over fragile specifics, and flag where details (like exact prices) change over time.
How we test and review tools
When we review or compare FinOps and cloud cost tools, we aim to:
- [Evaluate the product hands-on in a real or trial environment, where access allows.]
- Assess each tool on consistent criteria — for example: cost visibility and allocation, optimization features, multi-cloud and Kubernetes support, automation, ease of setup, integrations, and pricing transparency.
- Note the drawbacks and limitations, not just the strengths.
- Identify who each tool is best (and worst) suited for, rather than declaring a single “winner.”
- Disclose when our assessment is based on documentation and demos rather than full hands-on testing.
How we handle pricing and data
Cloud pricing, discounts, and product features change frequently. We:
- Cite figures as approximate ranges where exact numbers shift often (for example, “Spot can save up to ~90%”).
- Encourage you to verify current pricing on the provider’s own calculator before making decisions.
- Clearly label illustrative examples (such as sample savings figures) so they aren’t mistaken for guarantees.
Keeping content current
We revisit our most important guides on a regular basis and update them when pricing, products, or best practices change. Each article shows a “Last updated” date so you can judge its freshness.
